Two pompoms rock. With a pattern

This newborn beanie is very simple and cute at the same time. Could be a fast project for the last minute visit or a surprise for a mother-to-be.

The hat pattern looks like knitting due to front post half double crochet and third back loop half double crochet stitch. So let´s try it.

Coolishek with two pompoms
Size: 36 cm/14 in (0-1 months)
Yarn: Himalaya Baby Dolphin Chenille Yarn white (80301), green-yelllowish (4150) and light grey (80325),
Yarn alternatives for overseas are:

Weight: Super Bulky
Meterage: 100 g (3.53 ounces)/120 m (135 yards) (! be careful original yarn Himalaya is a little bit thinner than Bernat blanket yarn so the result might vary)
Hook size: 6 and 5 (I crochet pretty tight so you may need smaller hooks)

Time: at about 2 hours

US terminology:
MC – Magic Circle
Sl St – slip stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
FP HDC – front post half double crochet
BP HDC – back post half double crochet
3BL HDC – back loop half double crochet, crocheted in so called third thread, video here
Each row starts with either 1 CH = Single Crochet or 2 CH = Half Double Crochet and ends with SlSt. With the use of markers you can crochet around without using SlSt.

Green-yelllowish (hook 6)
1st row: 10 SC into MC
2nd row: 2 HDC into each SC from previous row (20 HDC)
3rd row: 2 HDC into each HDC from previous row (40 HDC)
4th row: two FP HDC and two 3BL HDC video here, repeat (40)
5th row: two FPHDC into FP HDC from the previous row, two 3BL HDC into 3BL HDC from the previous row (40)

White (hook 6)
6th – 10th row: two FPHDC into FP HDC from the previous row, two 3BL HDC into 3BL HDC from the previous row (40)

Light grey (hook 6)
11th row: two FPHDC into FP HDC from the previous row, two 3BL HDC into 3BL HDC from the previous row (40)

Light grey HOOK 5
12th – 14th row: one FPHDC and one BPHDC, repeat around the hat (40)

Green-yellowish (hook 5)
15th row: SC around the hat (40 SC).

Finish:
Make two pompoms and sew them to the hat. Sew the decorative button.
