With lace and ribbon. Free pattern

2.10.2017

And there it is a red-white baby beanie with ears and lace and ribbon.

I made a poll on facebook and realized that more people liked the grey-white combination but surprisingly the red-white sold first. If I had to make the choice, I would choose the red set too. So there is a pattern for it.

Decorative ribbon 50 cm/0.54 yard
Lace 20 cm/7.8 in
Needle and thread
Decorative button
Time: at about 2 hours

Suitable for beginners

US terminology:
MC – Magic Circle
Sl St – slip stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet
FP DC – front post double crochet
BP DC – back post double crochet

Each row starts with either 1 CH = Single Crochet or 2 CH = Half Double Crochet and ends with SlSt. With the use of markers you can crochet around without using SlSt.

White (hook 6) STARTING WITH A BRIM
1st row: 8 CH, turn
2nd row: insert the hook into 5th stitch from the beginning and make DC (what has left is the substitution for the first DC), then crochet DC into each loop four times (6 DC), turn
3rd row: FP DC only (6)
4th row: BP DC only (6)
5th – 24th row: repeat one row FP DC and the other row BP DC (6)
25th row: use SlSt to join the other end to make a circle brim

White (hook 6) THE HAT BODY
1st row: crochet scheme 2 SC in one gap of the brim, 1 SC in the next one. Make 2 SC in the tenth and ninth gap of the brim. You should have 39 SC altogether

Red (hook 6)
2nd – 3rd row: SC in the SC from the previous row (39 SC)

White (hook 6)
4th – 10th row: SC in the SC from the previous row (39 SC)
11th row: turn the hat inside and join the both sites with SlSt (you end up with a square hat), end yarn

Red (hook 6)
Make 39 SC around the brim of the hat. Follow the scheme of the first row.

EARS
Take needle and white double thread. At about 2 cm/0.7 in from the tip of the hat corner sew the hat through turn at the end and sew back to the point you have started (with sewing and two edges it looks like a triangle). Then slightly pull the thread and make a knot. You should end up with an ear. Apply this to the second ear.

FINISH
Make a bow from the ribbon and lace and secure it with a button. Sew it to the red stripe. You can find how to make a bow in a gallery here.
