One for gentlemen. Free pattern

16.11.2016

On a local fair a friend of my husband-to-be came to our stand and picked one coolishek asking for a bigger one.

I usually crochet mainly for babies so I was quite surprised when he demanded  to be measured and placed an order for a man size. That was a challenge. To make a real man size coolishek was something which I had on my mind for a little while. So I tried and this is the result. It is not a big deal and I would like to share this pattern with you.

Man-size Coolishek
Size: 57-59 cm/22.4 – 23.2 in
Yarn: Himalaya Baby Dolphin Chenille Yarn green-yellow (4150) zde and white (4002) zde and Himalaya Baby Dolphin dark grey (80320) zde
Yarn alternatives for overseas are:
– Kartopu Yumurcak
– Universal Yarn Bella Chenille
– Katia Bambi
– King Cole Yumi
– Red Heart Velvety
Weight: Super Bulky
Meterage: 100 g (3.53 ounces)/120 m (135 yards) (! be careful original yarn Himalaya is a little bit thinner than Bernat blanket yarn so the result might vary)
Hook size: 6 and 5  (I crochet pretty tight so you may need smaller hooks)
Pompom: I made my own from Kartopu Pamuklu Bebe, but also Jeans Kiwi works well or you can buy one.
Needle and thread
strong>Decorative button and a simple button
Time: at about 2 hours
Price to sell this hat is 350CZK/$ 14 plus shipping.

Suitable for beginners

US terminology:
MC – Magic Circle
Sl St – slip stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
FP HDC – front post half double crochet
BP HDC – back post half double crochet

Each row starts with either 1 CH = Single Crochet or 2 CH = Half Double Crochet/DC and ends with SlSt.

Green (hook 6)
1st row: 10 SC into MC
2nd row: 2 HDC into each SC from previous row (20 HDC)
3rd row: 2 HDC and 1 HDC, repeat (30 HDC)
4th row: 2 HDC and 1 HDC, repeat (45 HDC)
5th row: Start with 2 HDC, then 1 HDC into HDC from previous row, 2 HDC into every fifth HDC (55 HDC)
6th row: Start with 2 HDC, since now one crochet HDC into the gaps between HDC from previous row (56 HDC)
Dark Grey (hook 6)
7th – 10 th row: HDC into gaps (56 HDC)
White (hook 6)
11th – 16th row: HDC into gaps (56 HDC)
Green (hook 6)
17th row: HDC into gaps (56 HDC)
HOOK 5
18th – 22nd row: start with substitution then repeat FP HDC and BP HDC (56) – due to lower size of hook it makes the coolishek a little bit smaller around the hat but this type of yarn has the tendency to get bigger, with this help it stays longer elastic
Dark grey (hook 6 – to help the coolishek to stretch a little bit)
23rd row: SC into loops (56 SC)

Finish: Make/sew the pompom to the hat. With a made pompom I usually pull the strings of the pompom through the top of the hat and sew the button from the inner part to secure the pompom.
Then sew the decorative button.

I love all of you baby, toddler hats. Do you have patterns posted for mittens and booties?

As soon as I translate them into English, I post a note either on my FB page or in Ravelry Library.
