Winter coolishek

“Do you also have a pattern for a coolishek in an adult size?” I got this message quite often these days.

Temperature below zero made me crochet one yesterday evening. And because I was so overjoyed with the result (so overjoyed that after midnight I sent messages of me in pajamas outfit and coolishek to my dearest friends), I would like to share this pattern with you.

 

Coolishek for adults

Size: 54-56 cm/21.26 – 22 in
Yarn: Himalaya Baby Dolphin Chenille Yarn lavender (80334) and white (80301), have a peak zde.
Yarn alternatives for overseas are:
– Kartopu Yumurcak
– Universal Yarn Bella Chenille
– Katia Bambi
– King Cole Yumi
– Red Heart Velvety
Weight: Super Bulky
Meterage: 100 g (3.53 ounces)/120 m (135 yards) (! be careful original yarn Himalaya is a little bit thinner than Bernat blanket yarn so the result might vary)
Hook size: 6 and 5.5 (I crochet pretty tight so you may need smaller hooks)
Pompom: I made my own from Kartopu Simli Tavsan (tutorial here) but you can buy one
Needle and thread
Decorative button
Time: at about 2-3 hours

MC – Magic Circle
Sl St – slip stitch
CH – chain stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
FP HDC – front post half double crochet
BP HDC – back post half double crochet

Each row starts with either 1 CH = Single Crochet or 2 CH = Half Double Crochet and ends with SlSt.

White (hook 6)
1st row: 10 SC into MC, SlSt
2nd row: 2 HDC into each SC from previous row, SlSt (20 HDC)
3rd row: 2 HDC into each HDC from previous row, SlSt  (40 HDC)
4th row: 2 HDC, 1 HDC, repeat, SlSt (60 HDC)

5th row: Star Stitch – watch video here
White (hook 6)
6th row: 2 CH (substitute for the first BP HDC), FPHDC, BPHDC repeat, SlSt  – FPHDC goes to the small hole in the middle of the star, it looks like a stem

7th row: Star Stitch – watch video here – be careful and count properly, you need to have again 60 loops

8th row: 2 CH (substitute for the first BP HDC), FPHDC, BPHDC repeat, SlSt

10th row: 2 CH (substitute for the first BP HDC), FPHDC, BPHDC repeat, SlSt  (60)

Finish:
Make/sew the pompom to the hat. Sew the button.
